The Persuasive Mirror

I read an interesting article this week entitled Scared Straight by Kimberly A. Castro which appeared in Standard & Poors THE OUTLOOK on April 23, 2008.  It talks about a new age progression technology by Aprilage Development, Inc. that may help people kick bad habits.  Here's how it works.

By answering questions about lifestyle and uploading a digital photo into a unique computer program, users can look into a "persuasive mirror" and virtually "watch" themselves age up 72 years old.  Imagine this technology at your local gym or even in your bathroom.  The idea is that it would encourage people to slather on the sunscreen, start exercising, steer away from fast food, or put out that cigarette butt--for good!

I love this idea of a "persuasive" mirror and implemented a similar idea (albeit much less techy) with my clients over the last year.  During the initial consultation with a new client, I'll ask what kind of hair removal methods she currently uses.  If she's been tweezing, waxing, and/or threading her face, I explain that those methods will actually make facial hair stronger, coarser, darker, and thicker.  I then have them look into a 10X magnifying mirror (very persuasive) which tells the story even better than I can.  I explain that the "pulling" action of those temporary methods acts like a trauma to the hair follicle and the body's natural reaction to any trauma is to heal itself--in this case, an increase of blood flow to the cells that stimulate and nourish hair growth--not what you want on your face.

Electrolysis has the opposite effect on hair follicles.  The small, controlled amount of electrical current destroys the germinative cells of the hair follicle eliminating the potential for re-growth.  Electrolysis is the only proven method of permanent hair removal because it's the only modality that destroys the source of growth.

I give all my new clients a complimentary "persuasive" mirror--a duo compact mirror with both a regular and 10X magnifying mirror.  My clients can use the mirror to assess their progress with their electrolysis treatment--definitely a "persuasive" tool when the client's own reflection evokes a reaction of self-confidence when the facial hair is permanently gone.

The name of my business is Face Reflections and it's intended to invoke an action statement.  Face Your Reflection.  If unwanted hair is a problem, take action.  Choose electrolysis and Face Your Reflection With Confidence!
